What does the Bible say about Treason?
The bible calls betrayal in marriage adultery. Adultery, according to the Bible, is sexual intercourse between a married person and someone other than their husband or wife. That is, the person who commits adultery is not faithful and is already disobeying one of God's commandments.
The bible also says in Matthew 5:27-28 that anyone who looks at a woman and desires her, he has already committed adultery in his heart.
According to the ancient law, as it is written in Leviticus 20:10, if a man commits adultery, both he and the adulterous woman must be put to death.
But, since the coming of Christ, much has changed and today, by His Grace and sacrifice, we are forgiven of our sins.
What to do when you discover treason?
If you have discovered a betrayal in your marriage, know that it is not your fault and that God understands your feelings. So, ask Him to console and guide you.
Afterwards, try to find out if the spouse who cheated on you regrets it. So if you have not told the person who already knows that there was betrayal in the marriage, maybe this is the time to have a conversation about it.
Marriage is an alliance made with God and your spouse, but the Bible still states in Matthew 19:9 that, in the case of adultery, the person who is betrayed has the right to divorce. Has the right to think and by a personal decision, choose between separating or staying with the spouse.
How to continue as a person who cheated on you?
Getting divorced is the best option?
Even though there is a right of separation in case of betrayal in marriage according to the Bible, we know that for God, marriage is a union for life.
So, God does not if you like to divorce for futile reasons, this separation should not be seen as just any action.
For this reason, remember the importance of marriage. If there was true regret and the person wants to fix the marriage, consider giving it another chance.
Release forgiveness!
Regardless of your decision, remember that forgiveness is important, as holding a grudge, unfortunately it will only harm you even more.
In the Gospel of John, chapter 8 and verses 4 to 11, it shows a passage where Christ meets a woman who was caught in the act of adultery. Wanting the woman to be stoned, the Pharisees and teachers of the Law took the woman to Christ, speaking of the Law of Moses. But Christ gave a great lesson, telling them that if any of them is without sin, let him be the first to stone. So no one stoned her and they all went away, and then Jesus asked her: Has no one condemned her? And when she said no, He said: "Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more."
If Christ who is Holy forgave the adulterous woman, who are we to deny forgiveness?
Releasing forgiveness is very important to be able to move forward without guilt!
Your spouse must ask forgiveness for the betrayal not only from you, but also from God, since he/she disobeyed His commandments and committed sin.
Try to help him/her to live in the spirit so that he/she will no longer satisfy the desires of the flesh, as Galatians 5:16.
The Bible allows to continue with a person who cheated sexually?
The world preaches every day that marital infidelity "reduces stress" or "improves the relationship".
Why do most couples break up, then, when adultery is discovered? Reality itself belies what worldly reasoning preaches as an excuse for indulging in sin. By merely human attempt, forgiving the other is impossible. A "mask" of forgiveness is created, but the relationship is doomed even if a couple remains under the same roof. Only by resorting to the Holy Spirit can real forgiveness happen, and the marriage is in fact recovered.
It is not possible to serve God and the world at the same time, because betrayal, in this case, goes far beyond be unfaithful to a person, but to the Father himself. The choice is yours.
How can you forgive yourself for cheating?
Do not be so cruel to yourself
We all know that cheating is not correct behavior, especially when a family and so many bonds have already been built. But since no one is completely exempt from making mistakes, betrayal can and should also be forgiven. You made a mistake and deserve, like everyone else, a second chance. Do not measure your character by a particular conduct. Do not be so cruel to yourself and in not forgiving yourself. After all, you recognize that you made a mistake and want to fix it, do not you?
Learn from the mistake
Remember that everyone makes mistakes and that you are part of that portion. However, reflect on everything that happened and see where you went wrong, so that in the future you do not fall in the same path. The most important thing is that you reciprocate the trust you are having and not make the same mistake again. Learn from the whole situation and it will help you forgive yourself and have more peace of mind when remembering what happened. When we allow ourselves to learn from mistakes, the past does not hurt and the present ends up becoming more peaceful. Do this and you will see that forgiveness will flow naturally.
Change your focus
Concentrate on other things, such as your new opportunity. Make plans and build a new life together. It is important to put a stone on the subject and avoid comments that could arouse it. If both decided to move forward, let the past stay in the past. It is time to change focus and invest in new events. Do this together and the results will be rewarding. Surviving a betrayal is not an easy task, but it is possible when there is love and, above all, the will to move forward through the strenght of God.
