What is hope?
- Feeling of those who see the achievement of what they want as possible; confidence in a good thing; faith.
for example: hope of a better life. - RELIGION
The second of the three theological virtues, alongside faith and charity [It is represented by an anchor].
What does the Bible tell about hope?
For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope Jeremiah 29:11.
Why are you cast down,
O my soul?
and why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God!
for I shall again praise him,
my help and my God.
Psalms 42:11
Happy is he whose help
is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the LORD his God
Psalms 146:5
Our true hope is in God. He promises to bless us and give us eternal life. God does not lie, so we can wait on him. Hope is trusting what we do not yet see.
We often put our hope in the wrong things: in money, in jobs, in people, in our ability ... All of these things can fail but God never fails. Having hope in God is putting our trust in the right person.
Hope has good effects on life. If we live with confidence, fear decreases, we grow in perseverance and we are happier. Put your hope in God!
Hope motivates other good virtues. The Bible says in Colossians 1:5: "because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel."
Hope grows when we remember the promise of the resurrection. The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 4:13: "But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope."
Hope meets the heart. The Bible says in Ephesians 1:18: "Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints"
God bless you!
